MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Hi, I'm Ricky - Your STEM Instructor

Ricky - STEM Instructor

I'm an engineer with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Entrepreneurship from the University of Michigan. Over the years, I've contributed to projects involving Apple, Samsung, Texas Instruments, and other leading technology companies.

But what matters most here isn't the corporate work — it's helping kids discover how fun and creative engineering can be. Too often I see kids glued to phones or stuck in passive online courses. That's why I created HiWave Kids — where every class is interactive, filled with real projects, playful videos, and milestone badges that celebrate progress.

When your child joins HiWave Kids, they're not just learning — they're building confidence, curiosity, and the mindset of a problem-solver.

HAVE MORE QUESTIONS

Our AI Arcade Challenge is designed for kids ages 8-15. At this stage, kids have the curiosity and focus to enjoy hands-on building while learning beginner-friendly AI and coding concepts.

No — we ship a complete engineering kit to your door. It includes:

  • Microcontroller
  • Sensors
  • LEDs
  • LCD display
  • Hoop + ball
  • Build materials
  • Wires
  • Tripod stand

Everything arrives pre-soldered, tested, and ready to plug in and build — no shopping, no prep, no tools needed.

You'll only need:

  • A laptop or desktop computer with internet access and Zoom
  • A power outlet
  • A smartphone/tablet for recording your child's progress — the tripod is included in the kit

No — the Engineering Kit is a one-time fee of $150 for courses 1 and 2. You pay for it before the course starts, and your child uses it for at least the first 6 classes (and beyond).

Yes! The game is a tabletop-sized mini arcade hoop — small enough to fit on a desk or kitchen table, but large and interactive enough for kids to feel excited when they play it.

You can stay enrolled as long as you'd like, and cancel anytime. Each month includes:

  • 4 live engineering classes (45-60 min each)
  • 4 catch-up sessions
  • A personalized highlight video of your child's progress

Most families stay multiple months so their child can continue learning new skills, AI features, and challenges.

We've designed the program so every child succeeds, even beginners. We offer:

  • Step-by-step live guidance
  • Small-group support
  • Weekly catch-up classes
  • Office-hour sessions for debugging

If a part is faulty or the setup is tricky, we also schedule one-on-one support at no cost.

Yes. The electronics run on low voltage, and the kit is specifically built for kids ages 8–15. Everything arrives pre-soldered, which eliminates the complicated or risky parts of electronics work.

No experience needed! The course is beginner-friendly, and kids who have never built circuits or coded before can complete the project with confidence.

More advanced learners can add custom features and challenges.

Kids learn real engineering foundations:

  • Coding (inputs → logic → outputs)
  • How sensors, microcontrollers, and LEDs work
  • Intro to AI concepts like vision, smart scoring, and simple algorithms
  • Creativity through customization
  • Problem-solving and persistence

By the end, they'll have a working arcade game they built themselves and a highlight video showcasing their progress.

Your total cost includes:

One-time Engineering Kit — $150

Used for at least the first 6 classes. Includes all the pre-soldered, kid-ready parts.

Monthly Program — $150/month

Includes:

  • 4 live classes
  • 4 catch-up sessions
  • Highlight video
  • Support between classes

No stress — every month includes 4 catch-up sessions so your child can stay on track.

We also provide recordings and quick support for troubleshooting.

We're everything traditional STEM classes aren't:

  • Hands-On, not just screen time
  • Live, teacher-led sessions, not prerecorded videos
  • Real building, not simulations
  • A shipped kit so kids can make an actual, playable arcade
  • Small groups with real-time guidance
  • A highlight video your family will treasure

Kids don't just learn tech — they create something real.

Most kids spend:

  • 1 hour in the weekly live class
  • Optional extra time decorating or adding features (30–60 minutes, depending on interest)

Minimal. Kids ages 8-15 can follow the instructions independently.

Parents usually only help with the 5-minute setup before the first class, and many enjoy watching their child take the lead.

We replace any defective or non-working part quickly and at no extra cost so your child stays on track.

For the best experience, we recommend one kit per child.

Each child builds their own arcade game and receives their own highlight video.

Right now, the courses are designed for individual families and small group classes online. We may expand to school or group programs in the future.

Absolutely. The program includes step-by-step live instruction, real-time help, and beginner-friendly builds. Even kids with zero experience will complete the arcade and feel proud of what they created.

You're welcome to use your own components, but:

  • All soldering and prep must be completed before class
  • The kit must match the required component list
  • The experience is smoother with the official kit

Yes — you're welcome to use your own parts. However, everything must be fully prepared before the first class, including:

  • All components sourced correctly (microcontroller, sensors, LEDs, LCD display, hoop, ball, buzzer, wires, tripod)
  • All soldering and assembly completed
  • All electronics tested and confirmed working
  • Correct wiring materials available
  • Your child's workspace set up and ready for building

Our live classes move step-by-step through the build, so any missing or unprepared parts can cause your child to fall behind.

If you choose the "bring your own parts" option, we recommend doing a full setup call with us before the program starts to avoid any hiccups.

Most families prefer using our official kit because it arrives pre-soldered, pre-tested, and ready to plug in, but the choice is completely yours.

No problem at all — we built the program to be flexible. Every month includes:

  • 4 weekly catch-up sessions
  • Access to class recordings
  • Quick support to help your child get back on track

Kids can join any of the catch-up sessions that month to complete the class they missed, so they never fall behind.

When you subscribe, you'll receive an email from us with the available class options. We usually offer multiple choices, such as:

  • Wednesdays (7-8 PM)
  • Saturdays (10-11 AM)
  • Friday catch-up sessions (7-8 PM)

You'll simply reply to that email letting us know which day works best for your child.

You can also switch days later if needed — as long as there's space in the group.

We keep groups small (10-20 kids) to ensure everyone gets hands-on help, so scheduling confirmations are first come, first served.

To give every student the best experience, we do not allow new students to join mid-cycle. Once a group starts, enrollment for that round closes. New students can join the next available cycle, and we'll notify you by email as soon as a new round opens so you can reserve your spot.

How to Make an LED Blink with Arduino – Easy STEM Project for Kids

Every programmer remembers printing their first "Hello World." In electronics, the equivalent is making an LED blink. It's the simplest circuit you can build with Arduino — but also the most powerful idea you can learn: code can control electricity. That one concept is the foundation of everything — from how your TV remote works to how rockets land on Mars. Materials You'll Need Arduino board (Uno, Nano, or similar) Breadboard (so you can build without soldering) 1 LED (long leg = positive/anode, short leg = negative/cathode) 220Ω–330Ω resistor (to protect the LED from burning out) Jumper wires USB cable & Arduino IDE Parent Tip: Ask your child to guess the role of each part before you explain it. Kids learn better when they make predictions first. Step 1: Build the Circuit Place the LED on the breadboard. Long leg → goes to pin 13 (through the resistor). Short leg → goes to GND. Add the resistor in series with the LED. This is like a "speed bump" that slows down electrons so the LED isn't overloaded. Double-check: Pin 13 → Resistor → LED (long leg) → LED (short leg) → GND

How Kids Already Use AI Every Day (and Why It Matters)

Artificial Intelligence might sound futuristic, but for kids, it's already part of daily life. From asking Alexa to play music, to seeing recommendations on YouTube, to facing smarter opponents in video games, AI is working behind the scenes in ways children experience every day. For parents, understanding these everyday examples isn't just interesting — it's essential. As AI becomes more common in schools, homes, and workplaces, helping kids learn about it early gives them a big advantage. Instead of being passive users of technology, they can grow into confident creators who understand how AI works and how it shapes the world around them.
